It is not so late to out date Pascal architecture when a we got to know Nvidia giving their Volta a 16nm FinFET therapy and we believe it will be bleeding edge as it features the stacked DRAMs as it’s pictured so.
And from the same source we got to know that the performance per watt is going to increase massively and it might be vague or be a rumor but what we get now is ‘news’ as it said to debut after the Pascal earliest in 2017.
It is evident to see the difference between GPU manufacturers and cellular processor manufacturers are implementing such and we would like to see Qualcomm and Apple manufacturing their first early 10nm chips by this year timing out the GPU makers.
Speaking specification wise, the so called next gen Volta will couple with the TSMC’s 16nm FinFET where AMD will be using 14nm Global Foundries for the next Vega powered by HBM 2.0 schedules likely as same as when Nvidia’s Volta,2017.
Also AMD might jump from 14nm to 7nm which is a huge skip for 10nm making it probably be longer to happen as GPUs are extremely complex parts and takes much time to occur following by the manufacturing.
To add a little more to excite you, Mobile SoCs will target 7nm in late ’17 or maybe even early ’18 making it more delicious to see works in the mainstream GPU department.
